Hibiscus Powder Blush
Verdant jungles. Vine-choked canopies. The distant calls of rainbow-plumed birds. Air heavy with humidity and redolent with the scent of rich, dark earth. That's what I think of when I see large, bright red hibiscus petals unfurling in my gardens.
These tropical plants represent many things to many different peoples. They're the national flowers of Haiti, South Korea, and Malaysia, are traditionally worn to signify whether or not a Tahitian woman is married, and are part of a bubble-making process favored by children in the Philippines. They can be candied, eaten as a delicacy, and made into tea.
They also make an excellent natural dye when dried and ground into a fine powder. I've cut this powder with arrowroot to lighten the final product and give it some staying power. The result is a beautiful pink powder blush, with just a hint of deeper red and pale purple. When brushed onto the cheeks, it provides a delicate, natural flush that lasts all day.

Dip a clean makeup brush into the powder. Tap the brush against the rim of the tin to rid it of any excess product. Smooth what's left onto the apples of your cheeks (or wherever you want a hint of blush on your face!)
